Buying a used Hummer Article

The 100,000.00 question is - What are used Hummers going for? Ben Williams has been kind enough to let me post his complete H1 Ebay database of all auctions on ebay since 2000. The list is in Excel spreadsheet format and includes 1,110 auctions. You can sort or select through this database to get an idea what trucks have been selling for. Use this as a starting point. Realize that there is a wide variation in the condition of these trucks.

Okay, all disclaimers apply… don’t kill the messenger, professional driver closed course, don’t try this at home etc… I am sure if you think you see a mistake, you probably do…

.. a little background…

I am shopping for an H1 (still after almost two years of looking). This sheet is my way of understanding what the world (eBay) is paying, or not paying for these. Because I am not interested in anything more than 10 years old, at the beginning of each calendar year I stop tracking the 11th year. So now I no longer log any 1994s (probably would have added another 10-20 VINs to the sheet if I was). I also don’t track limos either. Anyhow, this is simply data, wean from it what you will. Please feel free to disseminate, give away, post, edit etc anything you want.

The sheet works like this… On sheet 1 are all the individual VIN numbers that I have found so far. Sheet 2 is the times those VINs have been auctioned more than once.

Abbreviations used in the list
Wg Wagon FSB Factory Slant Back Strt $ Auction start price
Op Open Top Int Clr Interior Color End $ Auction end price
Hd 4 door Hard Top Lthr Leather Rsrv Reserve
Tb Turbo Diesel Wch Winch Met Was the Reserve Met
Ds N/A Diesel Whl Aluminum Wheels # bids How many bids
Gs Gas E E-Lockers VIN Vehicle ID Number
SB Slant Back Bin Buy it Now Price

The date the auction ended is the field I sort on.. On sheet two you will see I don’t track all the info unless it changes. For example, some have changed color etc.

Ok, if you are on the first sheet and a line is in italics it means that it has run again and you will find it on sheet 2 also. If it is also in RED then it sold at auction but was relisted by the apparent same person. Anywhere you see bold blue text there is some discrepancy in the numbers from a previous auction etc. the mileage went backwards whatever. If the auction is ended early or the truck had a salvage title or there is some piece of information that could be omitted from future auctions with implications, I try to note that also. If someone changes a number in their pricing during an auction, lowers the buy it now cost etc, I try to show that also.

I would say much less than 10 percent of the active auctions at any time sell. The average sale is almost up to 4 repeats. That number should go up more and more rapidly as the database increase the number of repeat auctions. Any how, the 3rd sheet I started is turning out interesting. The daily moving average of trucks listed is between 30 and 40.(not a surprise). It has not been under 30 all month.(sort of a surprise, certainly not what I would have guessed).  In addition, the sales and 'un' sales are running about 3/2 for sales. So even if it does appear to sell there is a much better than even chance that it really did not. That is somewhat masked by the sales that are done outside of ebay but that is very hard to capture obviously.
